Union County Economy Soars

The Union County economy has grown rapidly in the past decade as residential and commercial growth from Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, immediately west of Union County, has spilled over the county line. Many new residential communities were developed, retail centers were launched to serve the rapidly growing population, and new businesses located in the county as well.

For much of the past decade Union was the fastest growing county in North Carolina.
As the chart at right shows, certified property values soared from $12.8 million in 2005 to $21 million in 2009, almost doubling in four years.
