South Piedmont Community College

Edison Carvajal receives certificate from South Piedmont Community College South Piedmont Community College serves Union and Anson counties with campuses in Monroe, Polkton, and Wadesboro. SPCC offers on-campus courses as well as distance learning programs.

Serving some 7,000 students, SPCC offers college credit courses leading to associate degrees, diplomas and certificates, as well as continuing education and basic skills courses. SPCC provides specialized industry training and emergency services training, and operates a Small Business Center that helps small business owners and employees gain the skills they need to succeed.

SPCC was named one of the Top 30 community colleges in the nation in 2007 based on the results of the Community College Survey of Student Engagement.

Wingate University

Wingate University campusWingate University, founded in 1896, is a private four-year co-ed institution offering 40 undergraduate majors and graduate positions in business, education, physician assistant studies and sports administration. The School of Pharmacy continues to grow.

Wingate has a scenic 400-acre campus, plus a Metro Campus in Matthews where graduate and degree completion programs including MBA, MAT and Doctor of Education are offered for adult students.

The Union County Public School system, sixth largest in the state, provides educational services to more than 39,300 kindergarten through twelfth grade students in 53 fully accredited schools.
