Union County is located just east of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, in one of the nation's top 25 metro areas. Union County is part of the economically strong 16-county Charlotte Region. Made up of both North and South Carolina counties, the Charlotte Region stretches 109 miles north to south and 115 miles east to west. It is home to over 2.4 million, with over 6.4 million within a 100-mile radius.

Centrally located between New York and Florida, Union County provides an ideal center point for businesses seeking to serve the Eastern United States. Convenient access by multiple interstates, and over 600 daily flights to and from the nearby Charlotte international airport, provide abundant transportation options. Two major rail lines also link the county with the rest of the country as well as with seaports in Charleston, S.C., Wilmington and Morehead City, N.C.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Union County has a total area of 640 square miles (1,657 km²), of which 637 square miles (1,651 km²) is land and 2 square miles (6 km²) (0.35%) is water.
